Barry Alderton
Barry took up swimming recreationally as an adult for fitness, and to help manage chronic back issues. Over the years, he participated in some open water swimming events, on occasion acting as a guide for an athlete with a disability in triathlons.
In 2016, he decided to take the plunge, and become a qualified swimming instructor. He completed his AUSTSWIM Teacher of Swimming and Water Safety and Towards Competitive Strokes qualifications.
As someone who swims regularly, he understands the need for an efficient stroke, particularly in an effort to minimise the risk of injury. He understands the needs of the adult swimmer, particularly those with an injury . He has an excellent eye for picking up deficiencies in strokes. Together with Mel they are able to come up with the best ways to correct them.
In his "spare time" he is often out cycling, sometimes with Mel, playing guitar, or out officiating at triathlons.
