Melissa Alderton
Mel has worked in the aquatic industry since 2000. What started from a desire to ensure her children weren't lacking in confidence in the water, like herself, has grown into a life long passion.
An AUSTSWIM qualified instructor, Mel holds qualifications in Teacher of Swimming and Water Safety, Infants, Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (previously People with Disabilities), Towards Competitive Strokes and Aquatic Services Officer. She also holds the ACSTA Development Coach Licence. Her teaching experience has taken her from small community pools to large swim centres, and everything in between.
Having only learned to swim confidently herself as an adult, Mel understands the needs of the adult swimmer. It takes time and patience.
Mel spent over 12 years working as a Teacher's Aide supporting students with additional needs. This has further enhanced her skills in teaching swimming to these students, especially after 9 1/2 years working in a high school for students with special needs in their swimming programme. She has a broad experience in meeting different needs in order to obtain the best possible outcome for students.
When not in the pool teaching at the local health club, Mel can often be found with a camera in her hand, one of her other passions, and either lapping up and down the pool herself, out cycling or running in training for a triathlon. Staying active and helping others do the same is what keeps her motivated.
